Learn to Love Learning Again

Over the last two decades of working in the training industry, I’ve had the benefit of meeting many intelligent and educated professionals from around the world.

Over that time, I believe people end up in two groups:

  1. People who have stopped learning out of curiosity and interest, they may still “take a course” but only to check off a box. Many who are in this group also feel they already “know” everything there is to know.
  2. People who have kept up their passion for learning, still have a curiosity (ask a lot of questions) and genuinely want to know more about a topic.

Our mission at our company has always been to attract the people in the second group and for the most part we’ve been able to do that.

But often, I wonder how do so many adults, once entering the workforce, lose that curiosity and passion for learning?

David Perell’s essay on “How Learning Happens” is an interesting look at this question.

In one word, it’s “Inspiration” or sometimes the lack thereof.

I have to agree.

When you’re inspired to learn and dive into a topic of interest, you don’t need external motivation.

You naturally dive deep into that topic.

So, what have you been inspired to learn about recently?
