How Your Office Floor Plan Can Affect Your Employees Creativity and Productivity

In recent years, there’s been a lot of talk about how to change the traditional office floor plan so that it promotes a greater level of interactivity, productivity and innovative thinking. Some designer gurus have called for open office plans that literally remove the divisions between individual workers.

Others have called for more abstract plans that introduce organic elements like plans into the office, or more whimsical designs that have had the effect of changing some tech campuses into hypermodern adult play centers. However, as this Fast Company article points out those kinds of office layouts lead to declines in productivity and innovation more often than not.

Instead, the article posits that spaces that reflect the people in them can foster higher levels of out-of-the-box thinking and dedication. The idea being, employees were allowed to a timelessly explore and shape their office space will naturally create an environment that they feel most comfortable and.

Consequently, employees will be less likely to be distracted by their environment and better able to focus on their work. In effect, by taking the constraints off their physical space, you also remove the obstructions to their creativity.
