Leadership is not only a talent, it’s also a discipline. If this is the case this means that there is a lot that can be learned about discipline and some things that can be practiced.
One aspect of leadership that can definitely be practiced is the fact that your people need to hear from you. What do they need to hear? Not only the criticisms and the corrections, but also the praise. In fact, praise should always be one of the first things that comes out of your mouth.
The moment your people have been working for a while is the moment your people need to be encouraged. And it’s not an anonymous encouragement, either. It’s the type of encouragement that comes with a name. Learn who your people are and lead them personally by the name.
Praise them on a regular basis, and you will build a group of people who do not simply work for you, but rather who want to work for you. There’s a big difference between these two things.
So take a moment to learn this and 4 other habits you can hone to make your leadership what everybody else around you is looking for.
