As a leader you may find yourself in the position of having to defend your stance and approach on certain subjects. Debates with leaders, board members and trustees will be all too common place.
So if you find yourself in the heat of discussion, we have some options for you today on how you can come out on top every time.
The first thing you need to remember is that a debate, or business argument should never be personal. So always leave phrases like “you always are…” out of the discussion. Once you enter into that territory, you have left the arena of business and entered into murky relationship issues.
Now, another tactic you can use to win an argument is to always have your opponent(s) articulate their argument first. Why is this helpful? Primarily because a lot of times a person will not know the exact reasons they oppose something. Having them articulate their side first may put them out there to you so you can see and have the time to analyze their argument.
