If you are a CEO, then perhaps one of the most important aspects of your job is connecting. Connecting with people, other businesses, potential partners, and the like.
Connections can take up quite a bit of your time…in fact such connections can also take you away from home and country and cause you to travel far and wide. It’s not unusual for a CEO to travel the world in the name of business for the sake of growing that business and establishing its name worldwide.
So if you are traveling, one thing you are coming into contact with are all the various cultures that exist around the world. And if you are not aware of how to interact with such cultures you may inadvertently insult somebody. Such insults can break down communication and erect walls and barriers rather than build the bridges you set out to do in the first place.
So as you travel, consider looking into and examining the various cultures you will encounter and learn to interact with them. You need to learn how to greet, whether to shake hands or not, even whether you should make eye contact or address certain people in the room.
