In Sweden, banks no longer accept or give out cash, a change that reflects the fact that only 2 percent of the Swedish economy is made up of cash. In America, cash and coins only represent 7.7 percent of the economy, a number that is likely to drop as digital payment loving Millennials now represent the largest demographic of the country’s workforce. In order to keep up with consumer trends, retailers need to start accepting payment from the most popular digital payment services, or the risk of being left behind.
