During a mindfulness program developed at Google, I heard a key insight about meditation that makes it a lot less frustrating

Google has surprised me with an interesting and attainable way to meditate. Interestingly, when I think of meditating, I also struggle to find a way to cut the distractions out of my time. The four-step process that is explained really assists, so long as I follow it. I also appreciated that I am not alone in the struggle, and who wants to be perfect at meditating anyway? It’s a process, just as described.

Key Takeaways:

  • Over the past few years, I’ve had an on-again-and-off-again flirtation with meditation.
  • It’s on whenever I get jealous hearing someone talk about how their sitting practice has totally changed their life.
  • This, I learned recently, is not an especially helpful approach to meditation.

“Cameron reminded SIY participants to bring their attention back “gently,” meaning that you definitely don’t want to be silently yelling at yourself for getting distracted in the first place.”
