An interesting article from FastCompany today as to why Facebook was so driven to have users switch over to their messenger app. It seems that it is tied into their next big move: mobile to mobile payments. What does this mean? Well, Facebook is now taking a swing at PayPal as they throw their hats into the arena of user to user payment options.
Now the campaign to have users switch to the stand-alone Facebook Messenger app was extremely successful.
Quartz went so far to call Messenger a “monster hit.” As of April, Messenger was said to have more than 200 million monthly active users globally.
It now appears that they are actually slowly rolling out the peer payment system, as they slowly experiment using it with various individuals in their user base.
This is a great move for this company that has been on the leading edge of so many different avenues of user experience. They definitely have a way for seeing the trends in social interaction, its uses and lacks.
In an arena where user to user payment options has been dominated by one company, it seems like a ripe time for them to throw their hats into the ring.
Now here’s an interesting question for you, based on this news: In what ways are you working for and anticipating the future needs of your own clients? Facebook has created a social media giant, and they are now further developing that social interaction through the development of this app and peer system. They are building an integrated experience for their client base…are you?
