The Port of Vancouver (in the province of British Columbia) is Canada’s largest shipping port and North America’s fourth largest port.
In the past week, the province of B.C. experienced extreme flooding causing casualties, loss of livestock and shut down major highways and railways that connect B.C. to the rest of Canada.
The extreme flooding was caused by a combination of extreme rainfall (the province received a month’s worth of rain within two days) and the massive loss of trees due to extreme wildfires in the past summer.
Unfortunately, these types of extreme weather events will occur even more as climate change affects the planet and we can probably expect more supply chain shocks in the future due to extreme weather.
