What does it mean to be a mentor to somebody? How do you take them under your wing to train them, show them the way and then set them free on the company to guide and start leading it?
This is a tenuous relationship we have here…most people are really revved up to go and get started on work, and oftentimes they do not have the patience for a proper mentoring relationship with somebody.
This should be your first clue that there is something wrong with this potential mentee. There are personalities involved here and desire and willingness to learn. There is also a large degree of humility involved here. So take the time to really consider who you are going to mentor. Don’t rush into that relationship, but rather slowly and patiently seek it out. For when you do, you will reap a bounty of rewards.
