Breaks can make workers more productive, but it depends on the kind of breaks. Some breaks actually reduce productivity. Planned breaks disrupt workers’ focus and can cause them to think of things not related to work, such as holidays or family matters. Unexpected breaks for no definite period of time, however can actually increase productivity. It would be impractical to abolish planned breaks for most workers, however, ti may be possible to introduce some unplanned breaks of uncertain length, and CEO’s may benefit from more such breaks as well.
