The most important thing to getting people to trust you, both in your work and personal life, is through eye contact, according to research. In our modern world of smart phones and social media it’s far too easy to miss out on important opportunities to make real connections with people face-to-face. Build trust and fellowship through making and maintaining eye contact with whomever you are speaking to. Ask a friend or associate to tell you whenever you are talking to someone and not looking them in the eyes. You can even try recording yourself to see what others see when they talk to you. Even when you are speaking to a group- pick someone, catch their eye, then speak. Pause between sentences and find another person with whom to make eye contact. In these ways you will build trust and communication with all those you meet, whether in business or private.
