For smaller firms that find even their biggest successes overshadowed by the movements of large corporations, the key to breaking away from the middle of the pack is to embrace disruption. As an example, when Netflix began, its market share was largely eclipsed by Blockbuster Video.
However, by embracing then nascent video streaming technology, Netflix was able to completely disrupt the home video market and effectively eat their biggest rival’s breakfast, lunch and dinner.
