Procrastination. It strikes a chord with all of us. We find ourselves gravitating towards it, even when we know we have no real business being around it.
Why do we procrastinate? I think that many people have offered theories, and even today we have an article that offers up another. For the many theories that are out there regarding this topic, we have yet another to pose to you.
Why do we procrastinate? Why do you find yourself putting off what you need to do, even though you know there may be detrimental effects if you do not do what you’re supposed to do?
Let me offer this as a simple answer: Fear.
We put off things and procrastinate because we are afraid of the overall outcome. We are afraid that when we attempt to do the work that is before, that we will not be able to complete it and that we will ultimately fail. So we put things off. We put them off and do things last minute so we have an excuse for ourselves as well as for others.
“Oh, I was rushed…that’s why I couldn’t hit the deadline.”
Sound familiar? But in the end what are you doing? You are simple becoming the root of your own destruction. Don’t do that. Take the task by the horns and face it.
