Tom Brokaw’s Tips on How to Be a Better Conversationalist

Seeing as he is worked as a journalist for 50 years, Tom Brokaw has conducted interviews with the captains of industry, world leaders and influential thinkers who have shaped the course of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. In order to be effective in that role, Brokaw has had to develop the kind of conversational skills that put his interview subjects at ease enough to get honest answers to the kinds of sensitive and probing questions that journalist need to ask.

In a recent Fast Company interview, Brokaw discussed how he honed the conversational expertise that has served him so well over the course of his five decade spanning career.

As being a good conversationalist is crucial to making the kinds of sales and connections that a corporation needs to grow, executives both neophytes veteran will likely find a lot of useful information in the interview. To start, Brokaw explains the importance of something that sounds obvious; to participate in a meaningful conversation you need to be an active listener.
