Why Are Employees Leaving?

More than ever, it seems that there is a mass exodus of employees from large, secure companies. Where are they all going? To much smaller companies, even start ups, to ply their trades.

What is the reason most often given? Career advancement and opportunities. But, one would think that such opportunities are readily available at a large company. Why, then, the desire to leave and shift to smaller venues?

Perhaps the reason comes from the perspective of structure. Many people believe that working at larger companies hampers there progress. There is too much red tape for them to work through in order to see their ideas come to fruition. Placing an exceedingly bright individual in a position like this can and is very frustrating.

What most individuals in this position will then do is move to a smaller company where things are changed quicker and in a more satisfying manner.

So if you find yourself on the losing end of a lot of individuals, perhaps it’s time to look at the structure of your company and how it can be revamped. See it not from that top down perspective, but rather from a bottom up. See it from the perspective of how those working for you see it, and make it an enjoyable place for them.
