Introduction
What exactly is technical analysis?

Module 1
In this module, you gain an understanding of the risks inherent in making forecasts. Making value judgements and probability outcomes as part and parcel of modern day business.

Module 2Exercise: Building a series of charts from data. Discussion on results. This exercise will highlight the importance of “clean “data sets.

Module 3

Module 4Module 5Module 6Exercise: Building a series of momentum indicators from data sheets. Discussing the outcomes and possible pitfalls in using exclusively this methodology.Module 7Module 8Module 9Exercise: Using current charts –superimpose Gann Fans and Fibonacci retracements.

Course Level

Beginner to Intermediate level.

Pre-RequisitesThe workshop sessions will use Excel and VBA but no prior knowledge of programming is necessary although a working knowledge of building spreadsheets would be ideal.

At the end of the course, you will have a variety of useful modelling tools that can be applied immediately to your working environment and developed further into more robust applications.

Your course instructor

Paul Darbyshire: Paul began his career in the City working on the implementation of market models, stress testing and shock analysis for interest rate risk management. He then moved into quantitative trading in currency exotic options and structured finance.

He has designed, developed and implemented a variety of derivatives pricing engines, trading analysis and risk management systems across a broad range of asset classes.

Paul has provided major banks and financial institutions with consultancy on many aspects of quantitative finance, including new product innovations, risk management and financial engineering.

Hamish Tulloch: Following graduation at Edinburgh University Hamish entered the City of London joining a plantations company involved in natural rubber.

He moved to the terminal market in London and as a broker/dealer rose to be a major force in the business. Elected to Pit committee chairman and additionally gained trading rights on the Cocoa market.

He was a frequent business traveller to the US and throughout Europe. When the financial futures markets opened on LIFFE he was in charge of the floor team for a major London house.

A move to an office based position saw him advising and dealing for HNW and institutional clients. Became Executive director of joint owned London Chicago company running the house account.

Built teams and ran own company under the banner of the largest global FCM. Built a research unit at an economic advisory company and lastly was head of marketing in Asset Management at Reuters.

Hamish has retained his lifelong interest in teaching and has PGCE and full current GTC status. Mentored colleagues and delivered seminars for banking groups on topics ranging from stock index options to commodities.
