Many managers and senior executives are thrust into a managerial and leadership role without the proper guidance or training to be an effective leader.
Sure, they probably were promoted due to their job performance but performing well at a job function and leading a team are two different things.
So, many managers may feel like an “imposter”, as if they don’t belong in a leadership role because they’re not sure how to properly lead.
In other words, second-guessing yourself.
Here’s a few ways to stop second-guessing yourself and overcome imposter syndrome:
- Interrupt: whenever you start second-guessing yourself, stop and interrupt yourself from those negative thoughts.
- Accept: accept the current situation for what it is.
- Redirect: Instead of second-guessing yourself, accept that you are in charge and redirect your questions and thoughts to ask yourself: “How best to overcome the current challenge?”
