Will Hybrid Work Affect Promotions & Pay?

Via the 21 Hats Morning Report, they report that executives at PricewaterhouseCoopers are worried staff who stay working from home (or a hybrid format) could fall behind in terms of promotions and pay.

However, in my view, that could be due to a more “traditional” way of looking at work.

If we’re going to transition to more remote or hybrid working formats, companies and managers need to adjust their way of looking at employee performance.

If you measure an employee’s performance by outcomes vs time spent in office or schmoozing with boss, it shouldn’t matter where an employee is physically located.

Performance metrics are in need of an overhaul, hybrid work can work but managers are going to need to adjust accordingly to make it work as well. Hoping everyone will just go back to normal or return to the office without pushback may be shortsighted.
