Is It Worth It to Pay Ransomeware?

Via the 21 Hats Morning Report, two thirds of 1300 global security professionals surveyed reported their company suffered financial losses due to ransomeware attacks.

One third of enterprise ransomeware victims ended up paying the ransom to the hackers.


…80% of those who paid the ransom reported suffering subsequent rasomware attacks despite paying the initial ransom.

While most victims got their data back, 46% found their some (or even all) data to be corrupted or unusable in the end.

Leading many senior cybersecurity executives to conclude it’s better not to pay the ransoms.

The survey also found that two thirds of the victims suffered financial loss, some had to lay off workers due to the financial loss and even 26% couldn’t recover from the attack and forced to shut down business completely.
